LC9 proves why they will be top of the League
LC9 (League of Competition #9) might only have debuted earlier in May, but they’re six individuals that are raring to show their enthusiasm in order to stand out in the industry.
During their press conference at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa on the morning of November 30, the boys shared that they were extremely excited to be having their very first overseas showcase in Singapore, and LC9’s very own ulzzang E.den called our little island a ‘breath of fresh air’ due to our luscious greenery.
In an industry full of numerous groups and concepts, it’s hard for even experienced idols to stand out. For LC9, they debuted around the same time as one of K-pop’s power rookies BTS (Bangtan Boys), and main vocalist King say they can be differentiated by their pop/electronic sound. (We actually did an analysis of both groups when they debuted back in May, which you may read about here.)
Although the group has only promoted ‘MaMa Beat’ thus far, King also let us in on how the group is currently choosing songs for their comeback, and Love Beats (LC9’s official fan club) will be glad to know that they are likely to return to the stage before March next year. If you’re curious about what kind of style they might have for their next release, perhaps you could take a cue from some of the members’ favourite musical influences, which range from a variety of international artistes like Bruno Mars for J-Hyo, Chris Brown for leader Rasa, and singers Jason Derulo and Guy Sebastian for King. On fellow Korean artistes, it’s SHINee for Jun (“They’re good-looking and good at singing live!”) and Monday Kiz and SG Wannabe for maknae AO.
As for E.den, it comes as no surprise that he would pick a Canadian rapper as his influence! E.den: “I’ve always been into rap ever since I was young, and I’m from Canada, so one of my inspirations and rappers I really look up to is Drake.”
Most of the boys were noticeably quiet throughout the press conference (perhaps due to the 10am call time), but we definitely noted that all of them were very comfortable with each other. E.den had his arm around J-Hyo’s chair most of the time, and Jun and AO really lit up the room with their perpetual smiley faces. Also, although Rasa might look a little fierce due to his ‘cool and nonchalant’ expression most of the time, who doesn’t love a bad boy? Also, he’s totally adorable when he smiles!
Regarding future collaborations with label-mates Brown Eyed Girls and Lunafly, J-Hyo teased that they might be doing a Christmas collaboration (possibly a carol) with either of them, but that there are no concrete plans yet. Looks like we’ll be kept hanging for a while, but let’s keep our fingers crossed!
Despite the press conference being a short one, Jun managed to keep everyone anticipating their showcase by promising never-before-seen performances later that evening. To find out what they are, stay tuned to our coverage of the LC9 Live in Singapore showcase at JCube coming soon!
